What TopSport is
TopSport is a licensed Australian corporate bookmaker operating on a much smaller scale than the household names in this list. It runs a narrower board and a more traditional service, without the marketing footprint of the larger operators.
Being smaller is not a criticism here. It is the reason its prices behave differently, and different behaviour is what makes a book useful in a comparison set.
Why a smaller book prices differently
A large book prices a huge number of markets with a large trading operation and a great deal of automation behind it. A smaller book prices a narrower board with fewer people and less automated support.
The consequence is not that the smaller book is worse at pricing. It is that it has fewer resources pointed at any given market, so it takes longer to react when something changes.
That lag is the whole reason smaller books matter for line shopping. If every book adjusted instantly and identically, there would be no cross book differences to find.
TopSport is slow to move after sharp money
TopSport is slow to move its prices after sharp action. When informed money hits a market, the larger books tend to adjust quickly, both because they see the money and because they watch each other.
Sharp action here just means bets from customers a book believes are well informed, arriving in a pattern that suggests the current price is wrong. The standard response is to shorten the price that has been backed and lengthen the other side.
A book that makes that adjustment later leaves the old price up for longer. While it is up, that price and the adjusted price at a larger book disagree, and that disagreement is what the software is scanning for. TopSport appears often in the arbitrage opportunities it detects.
The flip side is worth stating plainly: a price that is still up because it has not been adjusted yet can be pulled or refused, and a smaller book will often have lower maximum stakes on the market you want.
Market coverage and where the prices sit
The board is narrower than the large corporates. Expect solid coverage of the main Australian codes and racing, with less depth in the long tail of player props, novelty markets and minor overseas competitions.
That narrowness is worth planning around rather than complaining about. TopSport will not be a counterparty on every market, but on the ones it does price it is a genuinely independent number rather than an echo of a larger book.
How TopSport handles winning accounts
TopSport is slow to limit winning accounts. Along with TAB and PointsBet, it is one of the books where an account betting on price tends to survive longer.
Its terms still allow it to refuse or limit bets and to close accounts. Slow is not never, and stake limits on a smaller book can be modest from the start regardless of how you bet.
Do not read a long lived account as a signal to bet larger than the market can absorb. A smaller book noticing you is a faster process than a large one noticing you, once the amounts stop being small.
Using TopSport alongside other books
TopSport is a specialist holding rather than a core one. It will not be involved in most of what you do, and when it is involved it is often the reason an opportunity exists at all.
Pair it with at least one large book, because the value comes from the gap between a slow moving price and a fast moving one. A set made only of small books gives you neither the coverage nor the contrast.
Check the maximum stake on the market before planning around a price. A number you cannot get on at a meaningful size is not much use.
